BUILDING GREEN demand is creating benefits that reach beyond just the environment, making it a smart choice for any homeowner.
Construction is a strong focus within the green movement – and for good reason. Standard construction accounts for one-sixth of the world’s freshwater withdrawals, one-quarter of its wood harvest, and two-fifths of its material and energy flows. By focusing on green building, homes are produced more efficiently, produce less waste, and use materials that have less impact on the environment. Additionally, these homes aid you in our personal health while providing financial savings over time. With a higher initial investment, you save on lower operating costs over the life of the building.
Ultima Homes NM is experienced green construction and can help you take advantage of its benefits. Below are some of the many techniques we incorporate into the homes we build:
Cathedralized Foam Insulation– One of the most cost-effective techniques to green building for extremely hot climates, this method of insulating provides an unvented attic with half-pound foam insulation applied to the underside of the roof sheathing. This “cathedralized” insulation method allows the air distribution system (i.e. ductwork) to run in a “conditioned” space and significantly reduces heat gain during the summer months.
High-Efficiency Power-Vented Gas Furnaces– In addition to the cathedralized insulation, power-vented furnaces offer an integral motorized vent exhauster which meters the airflow through the system, reducing energy loss.
Hot Water Re-circulating Pumps on a Timer– A re-circulating pump will allow for hot water “on-demand”. Placing the system on a timer will allow for hot water to be scheduled during peak operational times only.
Tankless Water Heaters – Standard water heaters heat and hold water until the water is ready for use, but this creates a need for reheating after time. Tankless water heaters heat only when the water is activated, resulting in a 50% cost savings on your utility bill. Since water heating is the second largest utility expense, you can save substantially. These tanks also reduce carbon emissions and last twice as long as traditional tank heaters.
Insulated Hot Water Pipes– Insulating the hot water lines with flex guard conserves energy by reducing the heat loss from the water heater to the fixture as the water travels through the supply lines.
Active Radon Venting System– Every home has a radon venting system installed under the slab that is vented by power-activated exhaust fans. This will allow for the quick and constant removal of harmful radon gasses that can build up under the surface of the home should they occur.
Let us show you all the ways you can benefit from going green on your next project.
